Panchayati Raj Day
Panchayati Raj Day is celebrated every year on 24 April in India. The day is celebrated to commemorate the passage of the 73rd Amendment Act of the Constitution. The constitution in which Panchayati institutions were established as the third level of governance in the rural areas of the country. There are three levels of local government in this system: – Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, and Zilla Parishad.
‘Panchayati Raj Day’ is celebrated to create awareness about rural development, importance of democracy and Panchayati Raj institutions among the people.
Panchayati Raj Day was celebrated for the first time on April 24, 2010. The idea of celebrating this day was proposed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. After that day Panchayati Raj Day is celebrated every year on 24th April.
